Shanghai Research Institute of Bone Tumor
In March 2013, Shanghai Research Institute of Bone Tumor was officially founded upon approval of Shanghai Health Bureau. It is one of the only two professional scientific research institutes of bone tumor in China. It belongs to Shanghai General Hospital (Affiliated No. 1 People's Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University).
Shanghai Research Institute of Bone Tumor has four research groups including tumor metastasis, gene therapy, cell therapy and photodynamic therapy. By the end of 2012, there were four full-time PI4s, 10 full-time scientific researchers, one post-doctoral student, six doctors and five masters. Its primary research directions include research on key mechanism of malignant bone tumor metastasis, research and development of the new technology for treating bone tumor by electric gene transduction, development of new targets for diagnosis and treatment of bone tumor and research on photodynamics therapy for bone tumor to further conduct multi-center clinical test. The Research Institute established cooperation network with Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, Shanghai Ruijin Hospital and Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital successively. It has close international exchange activities and maintains a long-term cooperative relationship with the Department of Pediatrics of MD Tumor Center and the Department of Bone Tumor of Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University. It adopts flexible talent introduction policy and flow system and jointly cultivates graduate students with world-leading scientific research institutes.
In recent three years, Shanghai Research Institute of Bone Tumor has won 11 national and municipal scientific research funds and other projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China three times, one subproject of scientific and technological support under the "12th Five-Year Plan" of the Ministry of Science and Technology, one special project of the Ministry of Health, two key projects of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Pujiang Talent Plan of Shanghai Municipality once, one project funded by Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and two projects of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. It won the First Prize of Shanghai Medical Science and Technology in 2010, Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress awarded by Shanghai Municipal Government in 2010 and First Prize of Science and Technology awarded by Chinese Medical Association in 2011. It has published 35 SCI research papers (IF=161.3, 7 papers with IF score above 7, 17 papers with IF score above 5 and 427 SCI quotation times in total), 98 core papers and two monographs.
Shanghai Research Institute of Bone Tumor focuses on researching the pathogenesis and new treatment methods of various bone tumors in depth. It cultivates and attracts excellent talents at home and abroad, builds a professional team of scientific research and has become a world-leading scientific research organization for special diseases focusing on translational medicine of bone tumor. It plays a key role in driving the development of bone tumor surgery of our city, improving the level of diagnosis and treatment of bone & soft tissue tumor and benefiting the patients across Shanghai and Eastern China.
