Clinical Feature

I. Coronary Artery Surgery

Our department is the first unit to perform coronary artery surgical operations in a large scale in Shanghai. We can conduct on-pump and off-pump bypass surgeries. Since 1997, more than 3000 patients have had bypass surgery with good effect. We applied in-depth clinical theory and technique in minimally invasive incision. We also apply internal mammary artery, radial artery and right gastroepiploic artery as the bypass materials.

II. Valve Surgery

One of our primary tasks is to treat valvular lesions caused by various rheumatic, degenerative and infectious diseases. Our physicians are skillful in mitral valve, aortic valve and tricuspid valve repair and replacement, including the application of artificial mechanical valve and biological valve. Our department performed the first mitral valve replacement operation with small incision assisted by mechanical arm of Shanghai in 1999.

III. Large Vessels Surgery

We have perfected diagnosis and treatment measures for treating various large vessel diseases including dissecting aneurysm. Bentall, Carbroll, wheat's, total aortic arch replacement, trunk operation and artery stent endovascular exclusion for emergency and subemergency achieved very good treatment effect and greatly lowers the death rate of the patients.

IV. Congenital Heart Disease Surgery

With the advancement of cardiac uhrasonography and radiography, the majority of the congenital heart diseases were clearly diagnosed and timely treated. We have accumulated rich experience in treatment of complicated congenital heart diseases like adult congenital heart diseases and the tetralogy of fallot of some children with light weight. We can conduct operations for atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect and the interventional blocking treatment without closing arterial duct.

V. Interventional Treatment

Our department can independently perform coronary angiogram, right cardiac catheterization, artery stent, congenital heart disease blocking and expands the scope of diseases and treatment method. The operations have good treatment effect, high success rate and little trauma.

VI. Surgical Treatment of Arrhythmia

The radiofrequency ablation technology for treating atrial fibrillation and other symptom of arrhythmia has irreplaceable advantages compared to the traditional interventional treatment method. We have performed such operation for hundreds of patients with good effect.

VII. In Apr. 2000, our department completed orthotopic homologous heart transplantation. This is a case with the longest survival time and good living quality in Shanghai.

VIII. Other Cardiac Operation

We also conduct diagnosis of cardiac tumor like myxoma, pericardial disease like constrictive pericarditis, pulmonary artery embolism, acute cardiac trauma and other difficult and severe disease of cardiac surgery. These all achieved good short-term and long-term effect.

IX. Postoperative Care

ICU of cardiac surgery as a key feature of our department has normative and strict treatment measures for the patients receiving cardiac surgery, especially those with other severe illness. It successfully performed cardiac surgeries for the patients with hemodialysis, blood platelet after splenectomy, hepatic failure to be transplanted and abnormal corticotropic hormone and discharged them in a healthy condition.

X. Extracorporeal Circulation

We boast a capable and efficient team of perfusionists who are responsible for cardiopulmonary bypass and can skillfully perform deep hypothermic circolatory arrest, bypass for upper and lower part of the body respectively, ECMO and centrifugal pump, which provides a guarantee for the cardiac surgery.
