Care for Your Health and Free From Stroke: Publicity and Education Activity for Preventing and Treating Cerebrovascular Disease of Shanghai General Hospital Launched

Stroke is a disease which is quite harmful for people's health. According to the research report of 2015, stroke has become the primary cause for the death of Chinese people. With the aging of population and more and more young people suffering from the disease, its morbidity and the burden caused thereby will further rise.
In order to respond to the macro strategy on stroke prevention and treatment of "discipline cooperation, standardized prevention and treatment" and "high risk screening and targeted intervention" formulated by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, on Jan. 28, 2016, the Neurology Department of our hospital held the publicity and education activity for preventing and treating cerebrovascular disease "Care for Your Health and Free From Stroke".
In spite of the cold weather, all seats are occupied and many patients with cerebrovascular disease and their relatives came to attend the activity. Professor Yuncheng Wu, initiator of the activity and Director of the Department of Neurology, firstly introduced the comprehensive cerebrovascular disease prevention and treatment advantages as well as the advanced neurointervention technology of the department to the patients and their relatives. He officially announced the publicity and education activity for preventing and treating cerebrovascular disease "Care for Your Health and Free from Stroke" launched. Later, Director Yuncheng Wu presented a lecture on the early identification and first-aid of stroke.
Professor Fang further explained the formation of cerebrovascular stenosis, the harm of dyslipidemia and the knowledge related to interventional treatment of ischemic cerebrovascular disease in detail.
At the end of the lecture, Drs. Wu, Zhu, Fang and Wang answered all the questions which the patients and their relatives wonder to know. All the patients and their relatives participating in the activity benefited a lot. They hoped more similar activities for the patients would be held in future.
This activity is mainly held for the high risk group of cerebrovascular disease. The publicity and teaching contents include prevention of stroke, early identification, latest progress of prevention and treatment, diagnosis and treatment of acute stroke and key factors for functional recovery training during the period of rehabilitation; free screening for high risk group; establishment of monitoring point at community health service center. It is expected that by the end of the year, 8-10 publicity and teaching activities would be held. It planned to establish 3-4 monitoring sites for high risk screening and health management of stroke at the community health service center of Hongkou District.
