Clinical features of Neurology Department

1) Cerebrovascular disease and neural interventional therapy:
Our stroke center has both stroke unit and stroke clinic which are specialized in treating all kinds of stroke patients including TIA, minor stroke, diabetic or AF-related stroke, leukoencephalopathy, cerebral small vessel disease, cerebral hemorrhage, SAH, vascular dementia and post-stroke depression. Our stroke team is 24 -hour available for regular treatment of acute stroke patients with venous or intra-arterial thrombolysis, stent implantation and artery embolectomy. This specialized group also established stroke screening clinic, stroke follow-up visit clinic, cerebrovascular stenosis and neurointervention clinic.

2) Neurodegeneration and movement disorders:
We are one of the most famous centers for neurodegeneration and movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, Aalzheimer disease, restless legs syndrome, hepatolenticular degeneration, myodystony, transient tic disorder, hyperactivity, essential tremor, chorea, ataxia, paroxysmal and exercise-induced dyskinesias. This specialized group now has six specialized outpatient clinics: Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Clinic, Restless Legs Syndrome and Sleep Disorder Clinic, Dystonia and Botulinum Toxin Treatment Clinic, Wilson`s disease and Hereditary Disorders Clinic, Alzheimer`s disease and Memory Disorders Clinic, Vascular Dementia and Stroke Clinic. This specialized group is famous on the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer disease, restless legs syndrome, hepatolenticular degeneration and dystonia and receives the patients from both at home and abroad. We are focusing on the long term treatment and care for the patients to utmostly improve their quality of life.

3) Sleep disorder:
The Division of Sleep Disorders has rich clinical experience on the diagnosis and treatment of the sleep disorders complicated by restless legs syndrome, sleep disorder caused by rapid eye movement, Parkinson's disease, senile dementia, cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, depressive disorder or anxiety. It established the first specialized outpatient for restless legs syndrome, which attracts many patients from home and abroad. It has reached a domestic leading level in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of restless legs syndrome. It has won many scientific research tasks including West China Association Fund and Medical-Engineering Fund of Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau and Shanghai Jiaot Tong University and has published many papers on the professional journals at home and abroad such as J Neurol Sci and Chinese Journal of Neurology. It holds national -level continuing education training session on sleep disorders each year.

4) Epilepsy and paroxysmal disease:
The Division of Epilepsy and Paroxysmal disease has specialized outpatient for epilepsy and paroxysmal disease such as headache and dizziness, and got many projects including three National Science Funds and published more than 10 academic papers on such international journals as Neurobiol Aging.

5) Neuro-immune and demyelinating diseases:
This division provides clinical diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmoneuromyelitis, disseminated sclerosis, Guillain-Barre Snydrome, peripheral neuropathy and encephalitis. It has the specialized outpatient for demyelination, regularly conducts immunotherapy for relevant disease and has published many academic papers on domestic periodicals.

6) The Rare Neurological Disease MDT Clinic:
Based on the above clinical features, we established the Rare Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center based on MDT with neurosurgery, neuroimaging, neuropathology and medical examination disciplines, providing medical service for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of difficult and rare diseases of nervous system.

The Department also built a multidisciplinary team characterized by neurodegeneration & movement disorders, cerebrovascular disease & neurointervention and rare diseases of neurology with the Neurosurgery, Medical Imaging, Neuropathology, Medical Psychology, Neurological Rehabilitation, TCM Acupuncture and Moxibustion and Critical Care Medicine. Based on the individualized principle, we provide excellent clinical diagnosis and treatment service for the patients with nervous system diseases caused by cerebrovascular disease, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer disease, restless legs syndrome, hepatolenticular degeneration, dystonia, essential tremor, transient tic disorder, hyperactivity, chorea, vascular dementia, sleep disorders, neuralgia, epilepsy, headache, dizziness, peripheral nerve and muscle disease, neuromyelitis, mutiple sclerosis, deficiency of vitamin B12 and other dystrophia and metabolic disturbance.
