Clinical Feature

Based on the powerful hardware and software, the department develops five clinical groups including electric physiological pacing group, coronary heart disease treatment group, hypertension group, cardiac（heart）failure group and structural heart disease treatment group.
In 1962, we implanted the first cardiac pacemaker and launched the first Cardiac resynchronization (CRT) for the treatment of congestive heart failure with three-chamber pacemaker in China. In 2002, we established the cardiac pacing center of the General Hospital and it was then designated as the first batch of national electrophysiology and pacing specialist training base in 2007. With the assistance of sophisticated equipment such as Carto/Ensite 3000 three-dimensional mapping system, the department has performed cardiac electrophysiology and radiofrequency ablation surgeries on over 800 patients with artial fibrillation and other arrhythmia with high success rate and few complications in 2016. Our department has gradually become China's atrial fibrillation treatment center and training base, but also the Asia-Pacific region atrial fibrillation training center.
Our department is one of the two Emergency Centers of Heart Disease in Shanghai. Our medical skills in treating coronary heart disease are in the leading level. Our department is the first to open a “green channel” for acute myocardial infarction patients, which greatly shortens the door-to-ballon time and improved the prognosis of patients with myocardial infarction.
To set up a cardiovascular disease network, we establish the cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment center so as to form a cooperative mechanism in multiple aspects and levels with related disciplines. The departement attracts patients from the provinces in Eastern China, which in return encourages the departement to improve patients' experience and quality of service. The Department of Cardiology formulates training plans for the backbones of the department, sending them to the large international centers to study abroad for the purpose of boosting the development of the business and scientific research capabilities of each group. At present, the radiofrequency ablation for atrial fibrillation, interventional treatment of acute myocardial infarction and CRT for chronic heart failure are the characteristic treatment method of the department, the technology of which ranks top in China. As the characteristic medical means of our department, they have reached to the domestic leading level.
