Proton Therapy Technology Progress Forum Held in Songjiang Campus

    On June 15, Shanghai General Hospital and Provision Medical Group jointly held the “Proton Therapy Technology Progress Forum” in our Songjiang campus.The forum aims at promoting academic exchanges between the two hospitals in proton radiotherapy. Experts in this field at home and abroad discussed the present situation and development of proton technology. Proton radiotherapy, recognized as a cutting-edge treatment approach, is one of the fast developing technologies in cancer treatment.Dr. Douglass Terry, chairman of American Provision medical group, pointed out proton radiotherapy had a unique advantage. Its radiation is much lower than the traditional way. Nowadays, 60% tumor patients in the United States received radiotherapy, among which 20% of patients use proton treatment. While Shanghai General Hospital positively focuses and keeps tracking of high technology, we hope that proton radiotherapy can be introduced and widely used to treat cancer patients in Songjiang district. The two sides also discussed the possibility for further cooperation in proton therapy.
