In the height of summer, a renewed sense of mission brought a special Highland Torch Relay. From July 27 to 30, Shanghai General Hospital saw a new team of medical professionals depart for Tibet and Qinghai, while members of the sixth group-based medical aid team to Qinghai returned to Shanghai after successfully completing their one-year assignments. As one team departed and another returned, the hospital’s commitment to supporting healthcare in these remote regions continued from one generation of medical professionals to the next.

On July 27, Hu Jiangfeng, an attending physician at the Clinical Center for Gastroenterology, and Wu Cailiang, an attending physician at the Clinical Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, departed for Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People’s Hospital in Qinghai Province. As members of professionals participating in the group-based medical assistance program for Qinghai, they will undertake a one-year assignment to support local healthcare services. Fan Xiaohong, Secretary of the Hospital Party Committee; Xia Wei, Director of the Organization Department; staff from the Organization Department; and the team members’ family members saw them off at the airport.

On July 28, Shi Fei, Associate Chief Physician in the Department of Neurovascular Intervention, and Gan Xupei, an attending physician at the Clinical Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, returned safely to Shanghai after completing their one-year assignments in Qinghai. Song Guoming, Deputy Secretary of the Hospital Party Committee and Secretary of the Hospital Discipline Inspection Commission, together with staff from the Organization Department and the team members’ family members, welcomed them at the airport and expressed sincere greetings and high respect for their dedication and service in the high-altitude region.

On July 30, Lu Ye, an attending physician at the Interventional Center/Department of Vascular Surgery, departed for Shigatse People’s Hospital in the Tibet Autonomous Region to begin a one-year assignment as a member of the 12th cohort of professionals participating in the group-based medical assistance program for Tibet. Fan Xiaohong, the head of his department, and staff from the Organization Department saw him off at the airport. Shen Jing, Deputy Secretary of the Hospital Party Committee, welcomed him upon his arrival in Shigatse.

The group-based deployment of medical professionals to support healthcare in Tibet and Qinghai is a major strategic initiative of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. As a hospital with a century-long history, Shanghai General Hospital has consistently regarded medical assistance as both a political responsibility and a social commitment. Through clinical expertise and compassionate care, its medical professionals work to safeguard the health of local communities, fulfill their mission of medical assistance, and contribute to the high-quality development of healthcare in these border regions.
