From July 29 to 31, 2025, the 11th MISUR International Conference themed “Shaping the Future: MIS in the Prostate” was grandly held at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. The event attracted hundreds of leading experts from around the world. Professor Jing Yifeng from the Department of Urology at Shanghai General Hospital was specially invited by Prof. Vorapot, President of the Thai Urological Association, to perform a live surgical demonstration and deliver a keynote presentation on “Thulium Laser Prostate Enucleation,” showcasing our hospital’s technical strengths in minimally invasive prostate surgery to the international community.
Innovative Technique Wins International Acclaim
On the opening day’s live surgery session, Prof. Jing performed a “Thulium Laser Prostate Enucleation” procedure via real-time broadcast for a patient with a prostate volume of 135 ml. The technique is an advancement of two world-leading procedures — the “Thulium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (Orange-Peeling Technique)” pioneered internationally by Prof. Xia Shujie and later developed into the “Thulium Laser Anatomic Enucleation of the Prostate” by Prof. Han Bangmin. The improved “Thulium Laser Prostate Enucleation” further enhances safety and efficiency in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Prof. Jing’s skillful and precise operation impressed attending experts from across the globe. Prof. Tanet from Rajavithi Hospital remarked, “This technology offers prostate patients a safer and more efficient treatment option.”
Academic Presentation Attracts International Attention
The next day, during the forum on minimally invasive prostate treatments, Prof. Jing delivered a presentation titled “Thulium Fiber Laser: Making Prostate Enucleation Simpler and Safer.” He provided a systematic overview of the Department of Urology at Shanghai General Hospital’s 20-year journey in prostate minimally invasive surgery — from the “Orange-Peeling Technique” to the “Anatomic Enucleation” and finally to the “Enucleation and Resection” — along with key surgical concepts and technical refinements.
This sustained, in-depth innovation within the same technical field — known as the “Chinese Model” — drew strong responses from attendees. Many international peers noted that this precise, innovation-driven approach is worth emulating. After the session, experts from Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and other regions engaged in in-depth discussions with Prof. Jing, exploring opportunities for future academic collaboration.
Global Recognition Highlights Disciplinary Strength
This academic exchange fully demonstrated Shanghai General Hospital’s international leadership in minimally invasive prostate surgery. Prof. Jing commented, “Our strengths lie in high surgical volume and refined technique, but we also need more time for thoughtful reflection and more evidence-based research outcomes to be shared globally.”
This successful international showcase not only enhanced our hospital’s influence in the global urological academic community, but also laid a solid foundation for future international cooperation.
