Professor Arnulf Stenzl, Secretary-General of the European Association of Urology (EAU), Visits the Urology Clinical Medicine Center at Shanghai General Hospital

On the afternoon of December 20th, Professor Arnulf Stenzl, Secretary-General of the European Association of Urology (EAU), visited the Urology Clinical Medicine Center at Shanghai General Hospital for academic exchange and discussion. The visit was attended by Professor Xia Shujie, the leader of the Urology Clinical Medicine Center, Professor Han Bangmin, Vice President of the hospital and Director of the Urology Clinical Medicine Center, along with Professor Wang Xiang, Deputy Director of the Center and Director of the Urology Oncology Department; Professor Jing Yifeng, Deputy Director of the Center and Director of the Prostate and Urinary Control Surgery Department; Professor Zhao Fujun, Director of the Urology Andrology Department; Professor Liu Zhihong, Director of the Urology Kidney Transplantation Department; Associate Chief Physician Guo Sanwei, Wang Xiaohai from the Urology Department; Qin Liang and Zhang Jianong, heads of the Urology Department’s laboratory; and several graduate students.
Professor Arnulf Stenzl is a renowned expert in urology and urologic oncology in Germany. He currently serves as the Secretary-General of the European Association of Urology, and has held positions such as President of the German Urological Association (DGU) and Director of the Urology Department at Tübingen University Hospital in Germany. He is also an editorial board member of European Urology, an executive committee member of BJU International, and a member of several other peer-reviewed journal editorial boards. He has contributed to and published over 840 academic papers and has served as a clinical trial investigator. He is an organizer of numerous specialized conferences in the field of urologic oncology both in Germany and internationally.
Professor Stenzl visited the one-stop outpatient clinic and multidisciplinary joint consultation rooms at the Urology Clinical Medicine Center of Shanghai General Hospital. He expressed high praise for the hospital's efficient, high-quality medical services. After touring the urology wards, laboratories, minimally invasive urology training center, and the Current Urology editorial office in Shanghai, he highly commended the rapid development and achievements in clinical education and research at the center. He expressed his willingness to establish long-term cooperation with the hospital's urology department to promote the development of urology in both China and Europe.
During the academic exchange session, Associate Chief Physician Guo Sanwei introduced the development history, team structure, operational model, as well as clinical and research achievements of the urology department. Professor Stenzl presented on "New Treatment Modalities for Advanced Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer" and shared the latest research findings in this field with the urology team and graduate students, explaining the latest concepts in optimizing prostate cancer treatment. He also expressed hope to strengthen talent exchange and training, promote research cooperation and technological innovation, and develop clinical partnerships, thus establishing a sound China-Europe urology cooperation mechanism.
Dr. Shangguan Xun and Dr. Jiang Chenyi from the Urology Clinical Medicine Center gave presentations on "Experience Sharing in Prostate Cancer Management at Shanghai General Hospital" and "Cell Sources and Molecular Regulation of Post-Prostate Hyperplasia Surgery Wound Repair" respectively, introducing the department's research progress and clinical experience in these fields to Professor Stenzl. The urology team members actively asked questions on topics such as frontier research, treatment strategies, and clinical practices in prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and other urological conditions. Professor Stenzl answered all questions patiently and thoroughly, creating an enthusiastic and harmonious atmosphere.
This visit not only provided a high-level academic exchange platform for both sides but also injected new energy into the development of urology in China. The two parties will use this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and exchange, jointly promoting the development of the urology field.
