On December 11, 2024, the Translational Medicine Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) held a cooperation meeting at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Translational Medicine Building C407A. The meeting focused on the latest research advancements in the field of translational medicine and potential collaboration opportunities. The meeting was hosted by Professor Ge Zhilei, Vice Dean of the Translational Medicine Research Institute, and attended by experts including Professor Markus Gerhard, Director of the Entrepreneurship Center and Academic Director of Healthcare at TUM, Professor Wang Honglin, Executive Vice Dean of the Clinical Research Institute at Shanghai General Hospital (Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Affiliated Shanghai General Hospital), National Distinguished Young Scholar, and the PI team of the Clinical Research Institute.

Professor Wang Honglin shared his years of basic research in the fields of dermatology and chronic inflammatory diseases, as well as his experience in translational and clinical research in collaboration with medical and enterprise partnerships. His research has focused on the development of candidate drugs for psoriasis, vitiligo, and Alzheimer's disease. He introduced the team's progress in areas such as neuroimmunology, immune cell therapy, pathogenic T-cell receptors, and non-coding RNA-encoded peptides, with a particular emphasis on the potential therapeutic value of endogenous micropeptides in immune regulation.

The Clinical Research Institute PI team introduced their basic and translational research focused on diseases of interest. Dr. Wang Jun, specializing in mucosal immunology, presented the latest research progress on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and expressed a strong desire to collaborate with TUM on colorectal cancer translational research. Dr. Jiang Dongsheng, focusing on chronic wound healing, skin scarring, and tissue fibrosis, presented models of scar implants and fascia-like organs and identified several promising scar prevention targets. Dr. Lou Fangzhou is dedicated to studying the chronic inflammatory relapse mechanisms of psoriasis, focusing on the process by which pathogenic T-cells recognize antigens. Dr. Li Wenwen, focusing on tumor immunology, introduced new mechanisms and targets to enhance T-cell anti-tumor activity. Dr. Zhou Luming, focusing on axon regeneration mechanisms in nerve and spinal cord injuries, proposed the possibility of reversing neurorepair barriers with drugs.

Professor Markus Gerhard engaged in a lively and detailed discussion with the presenting experts, expressing his admiration for the research results and their potential for practical application. Professor Wang Honglin invited Professor Gerhard to visit the Clinical Research Institute of Shanghai General Hospital (Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Affiliated Shanghai General Hospital) to further explore collaboration potential. Both parties reached a preliminary agreement on future exchanges and joint research, and the meeting concluded successfully.
