Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias in clinical practice. Recent epidemiological studies reveal that there are currently 20 million AF patients in China. AF significantly increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, dementia, and mortality, severely impacting patients' quality of life. For these reasons, it is often referred to as the "cardiovascular epidemic of the 21st century." In addition to anticoagulant therapy, catheter-based radiofrequency ablation is an effective treatment for AF.

Recently, the Cardiology Department of Shanghai General Hospital Jiuquan Branch successfully performed Gansu Province's first "high-density mapping atrial fibrillation ablation surgery guided by the OCTARAY magnetic navigation mapping catheter." The patient has recovered well post-operation. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the hospital’s comprehensive treatment capabilities for AF and provides arrhythmia patients with more precise and efficient treatment options.

The OCTARAY is the latest generation of multi-electrode mapping tools, commonly referred to as the "octopus." Compared to the previous generation PENTARAY mapping tool (which has 20 electrodes), OCTARAY is equipped with 48 mapping electrodes, offering higher resolution, faster speed, and improved integration. Traditional cardiac mapping could take a significant amount of time, but in this case, the OCTARAY completed the mapping of thousands of spatial points in just two minutes, enabling high-efficiency mapping in a short period and reducing procedure time. This tool is particularly advantageous in identifying complex potentials, understanding intricate arrhythmias, and formulating ablation strategies.

As more innovative technologies and concepts are gradually applied in clinical practice, the Cardiology Department of Shanghai General Hospital Jiuquan Branch will continue to pursue innovation and breakthroughs. The team remains dedicated to improving the diagnosis, treatment, and management of atrial fibrillation, providing higher-quality care for arrhythmia patients in the region.
