Recently, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission and hosted by the Shanghai Medical and Health Development Foundation, the results of the Ninth Shanghai Top Ten Young Healthcare Managers selection have been unveiled.

Ma Lei, Deputy Director of the Research Department and Director of the Ethics Office at Shanghai General Hospital, has received this prestigious honor.

Ma Lei emphasizes aligning with global scientific and technological frontiers and addressing critical national strategic needs while focusing on key research areas within the hospital's disciplines. He has systematically organized and facilitated the hospital’s scientific research management, fostering collaboration in basic research, clinical research, and joint projects between the hospital and enterprises. His efforts aim to establish an integrated, large-scale, and industrialized high-end research support platform and develop multidisciplinary, high-caliber teams. Guided by core disease areas, clinical value orientation, and key tasks, Ma Lei has advanced talent strategies, cross-disciplinary integration, and mechanism innovation as fundamental principles, significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity for scientific innovation and translational research. This contributes to the hospital’s high-quality development and strengthens the core competitiveness of its disciplines.

Management Achievements
In intellectual property (IP) and achievements transformation management, Ma Lei has adopted a problem-solving approach to refine management mechanisms, promote innovative hospital-enterprise cooperation models, and establish a comprehensive hospital IP lifecycle management system. As the primary leader, he successfully oversaw the transformation of 27 achievements, with realized revenue exceeding RMB 10 million.

Leveraging the hospital’s practical needs, he implemented strategic plans for discipline development and talent cultivation. Under his leadership, the hospital has achieved remarkable progress in scientific research development and discipline construction, rooted in its rapid growth in the integration of medical care, education, and research.

Additionally, Ma Lei integrates management practice with academic research. He has secured four bureau-level or higher management research projects as the principal investigator and published seven management-related academic papers as the first or corresponding author in leading journals. His achievements have earned him accolades such as the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Morning Star Management Talent Award and the Shanghai General Hospital President’s Award. He also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Industry Biopharmaceutical Professional Committee of the Shanghai Invention Association and the Industry Technology Innovation Professional Committee of the Shanghai Society of Bioengineering.
