The Delegation from Shanghai General Hospital Visited Israel to Carry Out In-depth Exchanges on Innovative Clinical Technologies

From October 7 to 12, a delegation of 10 experts from Shanghai General Hospital, led by Vice President Jun Liu, visited Rabin Medical Center, Rambam Medical Center and Meir Medical Center in Israel to carry out in-depth exchanges on innovative clinical technologies. In spite of the emergent state caused by Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the delegation witnessed the quick and mature response the medical emergency system of Israeli medical institutions made when faced with such emergent situations, and was deeply impressed by their proactive exploration and outstanding achievements in emergency treatment, oncology diagnosis and therapy, medical application of artificial intelligence, cutting-edge scientific research, innovation incubation, etc., In addition, discussions on development strategies for hospitals on how to cope with the upcoming aging society was also carried out then.
At Rabin Medical Center, the delegation learned the functioning of the emergency and urgent care system in war, the construction of the oncology center, medical application of artificial intelligence, management of hospital information systems, development strategies in the future, construction of the medical innovation system, and cutting-edge scientific research projects. Director Junming Xu and Director Chen Huang from General Surgery Center and Director Xiang Wang from Urinary Surgery Center went into the operating room of Rabin Medical Center for learning and exchanging surgical technique; Professor Honglin Wang from Clinical Transformation Research Center discussed with Professor Daniel Offen, a world leader in related research, about the development of high-quality producing process, application and future cooperation of the exosome-related drugs. Moreover, Wang also had an deep conversation with Nadav Loebl, an artificial intelligence expert, about the cooperative research on analyzing the action targets of active ingredients of Traditional Chinese Medicine by artificial intelligence technologies. As regard to the idea of establishing the Sino-Israel Innovative Medical Center, Vice President Jun Liu, and Dan Oppenheim, who is the head of international department as well as the former CEO of Rabin Medical Center shared their thoughts, and had an constructive discussion on the future plans.
At Rambam Medical Center, which possesses the world-renowned emergency medical system, the delegation had an opportunity to learn from Rambam’s precious experience of establishment, development and achievements in the past decade, and luckily observed the whole process of conversion of an underground parking garage into a large-scale, fully equipped emergency hospital within 48 hours. Professor Ruilan Wang from Emergency Intensive Care Unit of our hospital and Ms. Gila Hyams, Director of the Trauma, Emergency and Mass Casualty Events Education Center of Rambam Medical Center, discussed about the future collaboration in the areas of emergency personnel training and emergency drills; Prof. Honglin Wang, together with Professor Lior Gepstein, who is specializing in the emerging field of cardiovascular regenerative medicine and heart disease treatment and once succeeded in using embryonic stem cells to generate beating human heart cells, have reached an agreement on the cooperation of applying iPS cells technology in functional immune cell reconstruction.
At Meir Medical Center, the delegation mainly learned Meir’s advanced experience and outstanding achievements in innovation system, remote system of cardiovascular chronic disease monitoring, and the construction of the new building for emergency department, etc., Later, our experts and their counterparts learned the operation of different departments in Meir respectively, including General Surgery Department, Urology Department, EICU, Nephrology Department, Clinical Lab, as well as departments of marketing, education, and news media. Experts from both sides shared perspectives on the prospects and implementation for future cooperation in personnel training, technical exchanges, scientific research and innovative applications.
Though fives day are short, this visit laid a solid foundation for establishing the Sino-Israel Innovative Medical Center together with Rabin Medical Center, Rambam Medical Center and Meir Medical Center in the near future.
