the 2023 Sino-French Thoracic Surgery Forum Successfully Held in Shanghai General Hospital

On the afternoon of January 13th, the 2023 Sino-French Thoracic Surgery Forum was held at the South Campus of Shanghai General Hospital. Professor Marco Alifano, director of thoracic surgery of French Cochin Hospital (APHP Center) and director of surgery of CARPEM Institute of the University of Paris, shared their research progress and surgical experience in the field of thoracic surgery with Professor Ruan Zheng, executive director of the southern department of thoracic surgery of our hospital, and established a wonderful academic dialogue. Dr. Wang Jin, Dr. Zhang Yi, Dr. Wang Yuchen from Shanghai General Hospital, Dr. Antonio and Dr. Mahilde Prieto from Cochin Hospita share their respective experiences in thoracic surgery. This conference is another academic exchange jointly initiated by Shanghai General Hospital and Cochin Hospital after holding the first thoracic surgery forum last year. Vice President Jun Liu stated in his speech that the thoracic surgery department at Shanghai General Hospital has nearly 3000 surgeries per year, with remarkable clinical research results. The first Gongji Sino-French Thoracic Surgery Forum held last year received a warm response, hoping that both sides can expand their communication fields and have more cooperation in clinical research, clinical technology, and clinical innovation in the future. Director Jiang Fan of Thoracic Surgery stated that with the help of this exchange platform, he hopes to further enhance academic exchanges between both parties, create a lively atmosphere, and better serve patients. Thoracic Surgery Department will continue to strive to promote the international recognition and influence in the field, and looks forward to more cooperation and exchange with colleagues at Cochin Hospital.
Professor Marco Alifano shared the experience of Cochin Hospital based on a full method database, analyzed the relevant factors for the prognosis of resectable lung cancer, and pointed out that the impact of tumor and host microenvironment is complex. Through research, we aim to identify patients who can benefit from immunotherapy as much as possible. Dr.Yuchen Wang shared a case of 3-year follow-up after resection of chondrosarcoma of sternal stalk, and discussed the reconstruction of sternal defect, common types of sternal tumors, and the impact of sternal stalk resection on sternoclavicular joint. Dr.Peize Meng pointed out the correlation between height and pneumothorax through the modeling of height and pneumothorax related data and Mathematical analysis, which provided a theoretical basis for the prevention of pneumothorax in specific populations.
Professor Antonio Bobbio reviewed the experience of Cochin Hospital in the diagnosis and treatment of menstrual diaphragmatic hernia, shared a surgical procedure, and explored the difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of this special type of diaphragmatic hernia. Dr.Yi Zhang reviewed our hospital's experience in electromagnetic navigation and analyzed the factors that affect navigation accuracy, continuously improving this technology. Dr. Elisa Daffre shared the experience of Cochin Hospital's thoracic surgery in EARS, analyzed the factors that affect rapid postoperative recovery in thoracic surgery, and exchanged experiences with our hospital's EARS.
Dr. Jin Wang shared the experience in short-term clinical observation of small residual lesions in resectable lung cancer, and explored the significance of MRD for lung cancer prognosis and clinical drug intervention, providing theoretical support for the development of this technology. Dr. Mathilde Prieto shared the experience of Cochin Hospital in the field of cancer and metabolism research, analyzed the interaction between metabolism and tumors, and provided a theoretical basis for further research on targeted interventions related to metabolism.
Finally, Professor Ruan Zheng summarized the meeting and stated that the second Gongji Sino-French Forum attracted more and more outstanding scholars to participate. The two hospitals demonstrated their academic capability and provided broader ideas for clinical treatment and research through sharing, communication, and learning. He hoped that the Gongji Sino-French Thoracic Surgery Forum can play a important role in promoting academic exchanges in Sino-French Thoracic Surgery.
