The Latest Authoritative Release of Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) of Chinese Hospitals in 2021-- the Department of Urology of Shanghai General Hospital Ranked Second Consecutively

On the afternoon of August 4, the "2021 Chinese hospital and Chinese Medical College Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM)" representing the highest level of medical scientific research and innovation in China was officially released. Among the 1641 hospitals, the Urology Center of Shanghai General Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine won the second place in China and the first place in Shanghai.


In the first five-year Accumulative Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (ASTEM) of Chinese hospitals , the urology department of the hospital ranked third in China. Once again, it entered the "strongest" group of the national urology team with strong scientific research and innovation ability, continuing to lead the country and the region.


Stem is a quantitative and comprehensive evaluation of the scientific and technological capability and level of medical institutions created by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, striving to accurately show the position of medical institutions in the national medical science and technology ranks.


Shanghai General Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine,founded in 1864 ,is historically known as Shanghai Gongji hospital and the English name,Shanghai General hospital is still in use today. According to historical records, patients with urological diseases were admitted in 1865. Its urology department was founded in 1947 by Professor Zheng Huang who returned from Germany. Under the guidance and construction of renowned discipline leaders in the past, such as Professor Tong Xie, Professor Xiaoda Tang and Professor Shujie Xia, it is currently a national key clinical specialty, a key discipline of Shanghai Medical Science, a key unit of Shanghai Priority Plan, a peak discipline of Shanghai General Hospital, and a director unit of the Institute of Urology of Shanghai Jiaotong University. At present, there are 13 doctoral supervisors and 8 master supervisors. The Urology Center owns 200 beds, and has five major specialties and disease subdivisions, including Prostate and Urinary Continence Surgery ,Urology Oncology Surgery, Urolithiasis Surgery,Kidney Transplantation Department, Andrology Department and Southern Comprehensive Urology Department, operating independently. It always adheres to the concept of paying equal attention to clinical and scientific research , putting clinical work first, and is good at condensing scientific problems from clinical work. It sticks to the long-term commitment to solve common urological and various difficult and miscellaneous diseases.
