Summit Forum 2018 for Strategic Alliance of Hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta for Coordinated Development Establishment of 18 Specialties Medical Alliance Announced Yangtze River Delta “Specialties Medical Alliance White Paper” Released

On Oct. 27 and 28, Summit Forum 2018 for Strategic Alliance of Hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta for Coordinated Development jointly initiated by Shanghai General Hospital, Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital, Anhui Provincial Hospital and Jiangsu Province Hospital was held in Hefei, Anhui Province. More than 600 people, including well-known domestic experts and scholars, members of the Strategic Alliance of Hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta for Coordinated Development, senior management of more than 100 hospitals in the province, as well as administrative cadres of the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC attended the forum, which focused on building specialized medical alliances and promoting the integration of medical services in the Yangtze River Delta. The forum gave full play to its roles of exchange on experience and progress in various fields such as medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and management, and discussion about the way to scientific and technological innovation and development in the future.

At this forum, the Strategic Alliance of Hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta for Coordinated Development announced the establishment of 18 Specialties Medical Alliance. Shanghai Hospital Development Center’s party committee secretary and director Wang Xingpeng, Shanghai General Hospital’s party committee secretary Feng Yun, Jiangsu Province Hospital’s president Tang Jinhai, Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital’s president Huang Dongsheng, the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC’s (Anhui Provincial Hospital) party committee secretary Liu Tongzhu and some department head representatives released their respective "Specialties Medical Alliance White Paper". The Strategic Alliance of Hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta for Coordinated Development in specialty medicine is established to seek the complementarity and sharing of specialized medical resources in the urban agglomerations of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui, strengthen information exchanges among members, improve the overall level of specialized medical services in the Yangtze River Delta, as well as promote and facilitate the sustainable development of members in specialized medical fields.

At the forum, a Survey Report on the Current Situation of County-Level Hospitals in Specialized Medical Fields in the Yangtze River Delta was released. The purpose of this report is to show the status quo of county (city)-level hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta in specialized medical fields, deeply understand the difficulties and pain points of county-level hospitals in such fields, point out an accurate path for the integrated development of medical services and implementation of hierarchical diagnoses & treatments in the Yangtze River Delta, and provide necessary references for the government to make investment decisions on the health industry. The survey was led by department heads of the hospitals that initiated the Alliance. More than 100 professionals joined the research team. More than 4,200 questionnaires were issued. Shanghai Hospital Development Center’s party committee secretary and director Wang Xingpeng gave full explanation on the “Survey Report on the Current Situation of County-Level Hospitals in Specialized Medical Fields in the Yangtze River Delta”.

 Zhang Laiwu, former vice minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology and a professor of Fudan University, Xue Tian, executive head of the Department of Life Science and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhou Weilin, head of Urban Economy Institute of Fudan University, and Tao Xiaodong, medical president of iFLYTEK, each gave a keynote speech, respectively titled Use the Sixth Industry Theory to Create Smart Healthcare——Open a New Era of Economic Integration in the Yangtze River Delta, USTC New Medicine Construction, Planning and Construction of Coordinated Development in Regional Economy and Society in the Yangtze River Delta, Innovative Practices of Improving Medical Services with AI. The two-day forum would also have six sub-forums such as group-based-hospital scientific and technical operation, group-based control, fine management, smart hospital construction, hospital alliance construction, and two academic salons.

In June 2016, the State Council issued the “Development Plan for the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration”. The “Three-Year Action Plan for Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta (2018-2020)” was officially released at the end of 2017, which pushed the “fast forward” button for regional integrated development. To follow this trend and seek the complementarity and sharing of medical resources, Shanghai General Hospital, Jiangsu Province Hospital, Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC (Anhui Provincial Hospital) together initiated the Strategic Alliance of Hospitals in the Yangtze River Delta for Coordinated Development in 2016. The alliance now covers 112 hospitals in 26 cities. It is the only cross-regional cooperation organization of medical institutions in the Yangtze River Delta, which is devoted to the development of the Yangtze River Delta’s medical services towards branding, standardization, internationalization and sustainability.
