It’s learnt that the National Key R&D Plan came into being by integrating the former Program 973, Program 863, National Science and Technology Support Program and other research projects from various ministries. It mainly focuses on major research for the public good and concerning the national economy and the people's livelihood, as well as major scientific and technological problems concerning industrial core competitiveness, overall independent innovation capability and national security, to break the technical bottlenecks in major areas of national economic and social development.
