the Anesthesiology Department

    The Department of Medical Ultrasound in Shanghai General Hospital is formed by an experienced team of ultrasound physicians. There are 28 doctors including five with senior professional title and six with associate senior professional title. Eight of them have Doctoral Degree and eleven have Master's Degree. The Director of the department is Professor Lianfang Du, the Deputy Director of Northern Branch is Jinfang Xing(Chief Physician) and Executive Director of Southern Branch is Qiusheng Shi(Chief Physician).
    The Ultrasound Department is composed of outpatient section, ward section, emergency section and interventional treatment section. There are many state-of-the-art ultrasound apparatus including SIEMENS Sequoia 512, SIEMENS Acuson S2000, PHILIPS iu22, GE-LOGIC-E9, Esaote MyLab TWICE. The Ultrasound Department has long been provided with the cutting-edge diagnostic imaging and interventional services for patients.
    Currently, the ultrasound department offers the dedicated medical services of ultrasonographic examination for abdominal and superficial organs, vascular examination, musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal ultrasonic examination, transrectal prostate and seminal vesicle examination, ultrasound-guided puncture treatment, pre-, intra- and post-operative examination of kidney and liver transplantation. Moreover, Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) examination for abdominal and superficial organs, hysterosalpingocontrast sonography, and ultrasonic elasticity examination are provided for the undefined cases. The advanced new ultrasonic technology CEUS has been applieded in Ultrasound Department for more than 10 years, and nearly 30,000 patients have received this examination. The number ranks top in Shanghai and even the nation. The examined diseases refer to abdominal and superficial organs, and many small tumors have been identified by using this technique in their early stage. The majority of doctors in ultrasound department gained proficiency in using CEUS. The ultrasound department has been accredited the golden training base for CEUS technique nationwidely.
    The Ultrasound Department is also the training base for diagnostic radiology residency and doctors of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Nanjing Medical University. The teaching faculty provides series of courses for ultrasonography diagnosis, ultrasonography operation and ultrasonography research.

    The research group of ultrasound department is now led by Professor Lianfang Du, who has established a high-standard academic team. The group has been published more than 200 research papers including 58 in SCI journals. Pro. Du has authored the monograph "Clinical Practice of New Technology of Contrast –enhanced Ultrasound", which is the first book in the clinical field of CEUS. The group members took charge of 14 projects granted by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and nearly 30 scientific projects from Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Shanghai Health Bureau.
